Hi everyone! I’m Franziska, 52 years old, an academic, living in Boston. Since 1991 I’ve been practicing Iyengar Yoga, studying with a number of wonderful teachers, including Patricia Walden and Roz Malcom now, learning how to use my body to cultivate mindfulness, or what BKS Iyengar calls “meditation in action.” I have gathered many wonderful tools through Yoga practice, Tara Brach’s podcasts, Rick Hanson’s Just One Thing weekly emails, and my study of the Yoga sutras. Yet I fall out of my own practice when the going gets tough, and each semester seems to come to a crescendo at one point, and I lose my intention and get lost in the busy-ness of my life (which is generally positive and fulfilling). I am at such a point now, my plate overflowing, having to get so much done before traveling, and before I can let go of it all and focus on writing my book next year, away from my family, away from teaching, facing my own demons (and there will inevitably be some). I look to the Mindfulness Week to help me make this transition more consciously, more intentionally, to set the tone for the coming year of quietness and focus. And to take that back into my relationships at home, to learn to not spread myself so thin but stay true to my intentions. I will be traveling in Germany throughout this week, visiting elderly relatives, attending a conference, driving across the country and being with my mother, who has made a new start in a senior home 10 hours north of where she used to live, an unfamiliar city to both of us. I commit to spending early mornings with the teachings and to set aside time each day to arrive back in my body and to remind myself again and again that I can face the many different responsibilities with more equanimity.

Hi, My name is Daryl Kang from Singapore..I am looking forward to learning about mindfulness and being mindful about things and how to react to things happening around me…I have a very short fuse, which I know its extremely bad for my family members and myself. Because of this short short temper, I can literally “kill” everyone and everything around me…
I want to be able to control my mind and not the other way around as it has been since I can remember. Hopefully by learning to be mindful I will be able to either control or counteract the rising temperature of anger. Which I know its coming up but either unwilling to do something about it or unable to control it.
Pray that by engaging myself into this program I will become a better person around my family especially my mother.
